LISTERINE ^® Advanced Defense Sensitive is a mouthwash for daily use with a technology based on potassium oxalate crystals. Creates a physical shield on the exposed nerves for in-depth protection from tooth sensitivity. Alcohol-free . Tooth sensitivity is a short, sharp pain caused by exposure of the dentin to stimuli of various kinds, such as heat, cold, acidic, sweet foods or mechanical forces. Causes of tooth sensitivity: Dentin, one of the building blocks of teeth, contains thousands of microscopic tubules that lead to the dental pulp, where the nerves are enclosed. In a healthy mouth, dentin is covered by gum tissue or enamel. Poor or incorrect oral hygiene or aging (among other factors) can cause gingival recession and, consequently, exposure of tooth surfaces and tubules. When the uncovered tubules are exposed to heat, cold, acids or sugars, the flow of fluid within them increases and is transmitted to the nerve endings located in the pulp. This results in sharp and sudden pain.
